Swap your sloppy slippers on Safer Homes Day
|
| Wednesday 24th October 2007 |
Older people in Hillingdon will be swapping their old slippers for new ones at this year's Safer Homes Day event.
Worn out slippers are a major cause of trips and falls in the home and Age Concern Hillingdon have teamed up with the council to offer free slipper exchanges to promote how to stay safe in the home.
On the day, there will also be a drop in session at the civic centre with a wide range of stalls and displays, including a model hazardous house, free smoke alarms from the Fire Service and energy light bulbs from the council's energy efficiency team to promote the national event.
Councillor Ray Puddifoot, Leader of the Council and Older People's Champion, said "We are committed to supporting older people in Hillingdon and are always finding ways to engage with them to deliver the important messages about how to stay safe at home."
Chris Commerford, Hillingdon Age Concern, said "We are very pleased to be working with the council on Safer Homes Day and are grateful to the National Grid for donating the 400 pairs of slippers- we know it will save older people a lot of grief". |
