Under-occupancy campaign launched by A2Dominion
|
| Monday 12th December 2011 |
A2Dominion has launched an under-occupancy campaign to free up more of its larger properties for families on housing waiting lists.
Residents living in homes which are under-occupied are being offered support to move into smaller, more manageable properties.
Laurinda Hornblow, A2Dominion Area Director (North), said: \"This campaign, \'It\'s Your Move\', supports the government\'s proposals to tackle under-occupancy in social housing and encourages better use of existing housing stock.\"
Government plans, which may come into effect from April 2013, include a new \"size criteria\" for housing benefit claims in social housing, meaning residents could receive a reduced benefit if they have under-used rooms.
Laurinda Hornblow, A2Dominion Area Director (North), continued: \"We are committed to freeing-up larger properties for families on the housing waiting list and helping to reduce homelessness.
\"We want to help residents who under occupy their homes to move by offering an incentive to downsize to a property more suited to their needs. This will allow them to retain the maximum benefit entitlements available to them and could also reduce their rental, council tax and utility costs.\"
A2Dominion is offering £1,000 for every spare bedroom given up, up to £500 towards decorating costs and other removal costs, up to £700 towards removal costs, including house clearance and dedicated support to residents who require extra help moving.
The campaign is aimed at residents living in A2Dominion\'s areas of operation across London and southern England. |
