Six Windsor Housing tenants who recently moved into shared accommodation together are socialising much more, thanks to a Community Link grant which has funded a multi-purpose games table.
Barry Swann, Barry McVea, Peter Thompson, James Lambert, Edward Paranathala and John Kennedy, all of Shaw Court, took delivery of the interchangeable pool, table tennis and air hockey games table last month (March) expecting it to become a social focal point for the house and a great draw for their friends.
The Windsor Housing tenants, all with learning disabilities and supported by Turnstone Support, were awarded the money by Community Link, a resident-led community organisation backed by Windsor Housing. Windsor Housing and Turnstone Support are both part of Radian.
Rae Addison, Chair of Community Link, explains that the Shaw Court tenants were prime candidates for a “Make it Happen” grant, because the money would allow them to build closer ties with each other, promote community spirit and prevent social exclusion.
“We were extremely impressed by the positive action taken by the Shaw Court tenants in coming up with a plan for a games room, the centrepiece of which is the pool table, and writing to us to help make it happen.”
Turnstone Director, Madeline Drake backed this view saying: “The tenants showed great initiative in identifying what they wanted and, thanks to some close team working between themselves, Turnstone Support, Community Link and Windsor Housing, were able to make their vision a reality.” |
