Treating the troops to thoughtful gifts

Friday 10th June 2011
Gifts providing essential home comforts to our troops overseas have been donated by staff and residents of Waterloo Housing Group to community group The Pink Berets.

A bumper collection of everyday essentials and treats, including toiletries, first aid items, tea, sweets, DVDs and puzzle books, was picked up by members of The Pink Berets. It followed an extensive donation effort throughout Waterloo Group's offices.

The Pink Berets was formed three years ago after the death of Trooper Robert Pearson to fundraise for charities such as Help for Heroes and provide other support to members of the armed forces, their friends and family.

Said Ginny Cade, vice chair of The Pink Berets: "We all have reasons for being part of this rewarding group, with many, like myself, having close family members serving in the armed forces.

"We're passionate about doing what we can to support our troops. It is wonderful when other people give so generously to help us, and we are very grateful for the donations from Waterloo Housing.

"From the letters of thanks we receive we know just how much these gifts like mean to our service men and women."

The campaign was such a success that Waterloo staff plan to do it all again in October by collecting items for the troops as a Christmas morale booster.
