Top award scoop at Silver Screen Awards
|
| Thursday 1st December 2011 |
Together Housing Group scooped the top award at the Northern Housing Consortium's Silver Screen Awards 2011.
The submission from Blackburn-based Twin Valley Homes, who are part of the Together Housing Group, won the 'Best Example of a Social Enterprise' category and then went on to win the top award as 'Overall Winner' at the event which focussed exclusively on Big Society initiatives.
The win was announced at a Gala Awards dinner, which captures examples of best practice and innovation that are making a difference within the North's communities, as part of the Northern Housing Summit Conference at York Racecourse (22 November 2011).
A short film, made as part of the judging process and featuring social enterprise projects which Twin Valley Homes have helped to establish, was screened at the awards.
The film featured two social enterprise successes. Gardening service, M B Garden Aid, was formed followed training and work experience at Twin Valley's Garden Centre project. Also featured was SLR Fencing, which was set up by young people who were on the 'Future Jobs Fund' programme in gardening and fencing construction. Whilst mentoring these two fledgling businesses, Twin Valley Homes offered advice, in addition to practical and financial support whilst their businesses grow.
This success follows the Social Enterprise Award for Environmental Achievement, known as a Lancashire Green Oscar, at The Lancashire Business Environment Awards 2011 and last week's announcement that BBC Children in Need have awarded £85,000 to Twin Valley Homes to help maintain and expand the delivery of support to disadvantaged young people.
Glen Finch, Head of Community Regeneration for the Together Housing Group, said: "To win the category was fantastic and then to be recognised as the overall winner at the awards is an amazing achievement and another endorsement for our innovative work to support our communities." |
