Teign work pays off for residents

Wednesday 14th November 2007
Pen has been put to paper on a £3.6m contract to keep homes across South Devon safe and secure.

Residents of Teign Housing are set to benefit from the deal with property services company Ian Williams which will now be responsible for all emergency and responsive repairs at the association's 3,500 homes.

Tenants were put in the driving seat as part of a panel to select the new contractor. A number of roadshows saw residents given a further opportunity to have their say and be involved in the process.

The new team will be operating from Newton Abbot with some staff co-located within Teign offices. The joint liveried vans have already hit the streets.

Figures show that Teign Housing is already completing 95% of it's emergency repairs on time. To boost this, and increase tenant satisfaction levels even further, Ian Williams has appointed a resident liaison officer who will be working specifically with Teign tenants.

Sue Copperwhite: "I will be out and about in the community to ensure we understand the needs of tenants. When something goes wrong in your home it can be really disruptive and upsetting so we'll be working to minimise this.

"A key part of my role will be to follow-up our visits so we can gain the feedback we need to improve. We only had five weeks to mobilise the contract start so it's fantastic that the deal has been signed and we can get on with the job in hand".

Teign Housing residents are reminded that all Ian Williams employees will carry joint brand identity cards. Genuine Ian Williams' staff will never be offended if you ask to see this, so do check if you are unsure.
