Staff and residents at the Southend and Thurrock Parent and Child Projects in Essex were delighted to have got through to the finals of Staff Training and Development category of the Essex Countywide Business Awards 2010 and on Friday, were ecstatic when the project was declared the winner.
Now in its eleventh year the annual awards, organised by Newsquest Essex, publishers of 33 newspaper titles across Essex, is the largest business event in Essex.
The Staff Training and Development category is for companies/organisations that show positive commitment to ongoing staff training and development, creating a committed, happy and effective workforce.
Jayne Stonely, project manager said: “I am absolutely over the moon that we have won. It is such a huge achievement for the scheme and of course Sanctuary’s Learning and Development Team which provides us with excellent training and development programmes.”
Southend and Thurrock Parent and Child Projects provide safe and secure accommodation for young mothers and their babies and teenage mums-to-be, where dedicated and highly trained staff support them to develop the life skills and confidence they need to live independently and give their children the best possible start in life.
The 36 residents are offered a wide range of support in relation to pregnancy and parenting which is tailored to their individual needs, including healthy eating, coping with change, budgeting, caring for dependants, problem solving and communication skills. Staff at the scheme also help them to access training, education and employment opportunities so that they can achieve financial security.
Sanctuary Supported Housing is committed to staff training and its parent company, leading housing provider Sanctuary Group has its own NVQ assessment centre. Staff can work towards NVQs levels two to four in areas such as housing and business administration. They also receive mandatory training in essential areas required for them to work in supported housing, including first aid, safeguarding and protection from abuse, residents’ rights and responsibilities, professional boundaries and confidentiality, respect for all, drug and alcohol awareness and ‘person-centred’ planning.
Sanctuary Supported Housing has Investors in People accreditation and is committed to the personal development of its staff, launching a leadership development programme for existing managers and developing additional courses for 2010. |
