Students cook for sheltered housing residents
|
| Thursday 5th January 2012 |
Residents at a Railway Housing Association sheltered housing scheme were treated to gourmet cuisine - courtesy of two local catering students.
Darlington College of Technology Hospitality and Catering students Jason Zunjic and Corey Crick cooked a three-course meal for residents at Railway'sTempest Anderson House scheme in Brinkburn Road.
Overseen by Chief Lecturer Rebecca Dougill, the pair cooked a traditional Christmas lunch for 38 residents at the annual Tempest Anderson House Christmas party, which also included a raffle and bingo.
The students had been invited to cook for large numbers of people, to prepare them for a possible career in catering.
Clare Richardson, Railway Housing Association's Tenancy Services Officer, said: "Jason and Corey cooked a fantastic meal and the residents said the food was beautiful and that they couldn't have eating anything else for the rest of the day. This is high praise indeed."
Darlington College of Technology Chief Lecturer Rebecca Dougill said: "Students need to gain more experience working under pressure in a realistic working environment, and they did an excellent job." |
