Sheffield Homes say thank you to Decent Homes partners for a job well done

Wednesday 9th September 2009
Sheffield Homes thanks Decent Homes partners Henry Boot Construction and Wates Living Space as they approach the end of their successful involvement in the biggest Decent Homes programme in the country.

Henry Boot Construction and Wates Living Space have been undertaking Decent Homes renovations which have transformed massive areas of the city. The programme is a £669million scheme of improvements to Council homes managed by Sheffield Homes and is contributing to improving the quality of life for Sheffield's residents.

The two companies have successfully brought approximately 4,400 Council properties up to the Sheffield Decent Homes standard, with a planned 1,600 to be completed by March 2010. Work has involved fitting properties with new kitchens, bathrooms, doors, windows, insulation, and central heating systems.

Over 33,000 (78%) of properties are now complete and as part of a planned exit strategy Henry Boot Construction will be leaving the programme in December this year and Wates Living Space completing Sheltered Homes schemes by March 2010. They will leave the programme with customer satisfaction levels with Decent Homes work across the city averaging 93% this year.

Peter Morton, Sheffield Homes Chief Executive, said, "The Decent Homes programme in Sheffield is making such a difference to people lives and we're delighted to have brought on board such professional and accomplished partners.

Customers have given me such positive feedback about the work undertaken by Henry Boot and Wates. I look forward to continuing to work with Kier Sheffield, Keepmoat and Lovell, who will carry on delivering the programme after 2009/10."

Joanne Jamieson, Wates Business Unit Director, said, "I am proud of the fact that Wates Living Space has played a major part in successfully delivering Sheffield Homes Decent Homes programme and have helped to improve the overall service given to customers across the city whilst improvement works are carried out in their homes.

I'd like to thank all those that have contributed to this success, especially the customers and wish Sheffield Homes every success for the remainder of their programme."

Simon Carr, Henry Boot Construction Director, added, "Henry Boot Construction is proud to have been part of the Decent Homes programme of work to our home city of Sheffield.

Over the last three years we have delivered a quality service, ranked amongst the highest by the residents and client in the Sheffield Homes Partnership, to the Gleadless, Jordanthorpe, Woodseats, Greenhill and Lowedges Estates. This success has been made possible by using our policy of utilising local labour, suppliers and subcontractors. On occasions our operatives have worked in their own or relations homes.

The Partnership with Sheffield Homes has not only provided Decent Homes for the residents but enhanced local facilities and left a lasting legacy to the benefit of the whole community of Sheffield."
