Following the success of winning the ‘Innovation’ Award at the North-East’s annual Constructing Excellence in the Built Environment Awards in May, Jubilee Terrace in Mickleton, Teesdale has now received a commendation certificate in the County Durham Environment Awards.
The commendation was made by Durham County Council in recognition of the contribution the scheme has made to improving the Quality of the County’s environment.
The Three Rivers Housing Association development consists of nine 2 and 3 bedroom homes. Seven of the properties there were developed for mainstream rent whilst two homes were allocated on an affordable shared equity basis.
The new housing development is adjacent to Mickleton Conservation area and addresses the acute shortage of affordable housing in the Teesdale area.
Judges commented on the schemes’ aims to promote the care of the environment and how it conserves and enhances natural features. The development seeks to encourage good design and sustainable principals in all aspects of the built and natural environment with its combined use of local craftsmen and high quality materials using a timber frame system and modern methods of construction.
David Brown, Senior Development and Regeneration Manager (Built Product) at Three Rivers Housing said, “Jubilee Terrace is an exceptional development that is sympathetic to the village and conservation area. It has been developed using good quality materials such as stone, slate and timber sash windows which sits within the village streetscape as well as its view from the surrounding countryside.
What is particularly pleasing about the project has been the partnership approach and attitude adopted by all involved which has resulted in the provision of beautiful homes in a beautiful Dale.”
Other contractors and partners involved in this successful development are Braithwaite Associates, B & I Thompson Construction and RNJ Construction Consultants. |
