Sanctuary residents celebrate Shiregreen Festival
|
| Wednesday 25th August 2010 |
Hundreds of residents from Sheffield’s Shiregreen Estate came together at a community event supported by Sanctuary Group, one of the UK’s leading housing providers.
Residents celebrated summer at the annual Shiregreen Festival, which took place at Hartley Brook Primary School. With plenty on offer for young and old, activities included, street dancing demonstrations, a football tournament, bucking bronco, climbing wall and even traditional Slovakian dance.

Residents also enjoyed tasty refreshments, while representatives from Sanctuary’s resident involvement team were on hand to answer questions about the services they provide in the area.
Resident Tony Blackbourn said: "This is the third year we have had the festival and yet again it been very busy and there have been so many things for the family and young people to do. It’s so nice to see so many happy faces."
The event was organised by Shiregreen Tenants’ and Residents’ Association (TARA), with support from Sanctuary, Frank Haslam Milan (FHM), Sheffield City Council and the NHS.
Helen Wright, Sanctuary’s Regional Regeneration Manager, added: “It was great to see so many residents turn out on the day and enjoy the activities. This was the perfect way to bring the neighbourhood together and celebrate being part of a thriving, close-knit community.”
As well as strengthening relationships between neighbours, the festival marked the beginning of new projects on the estate. September sees the launch of a new community resource centre, The Hub, while a thriving Streetscene Project is continuing to make a number of physical and environmental improvements on the estate. |
