Russet residents move into 79 brand new homes

| Friday 11th March 2011 |
A new development providing 79 affordable homes at Howard Drive in Tonbridge was a hive of activity this week as the final residents moved in.
Russet built the development in partnership with Crest Nicholson which is supported by the Homes and Communities Agency and Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council. Russet is part of Circle Anglia one of the UK's leading providers of affordable housing.
Built on the former Hugh Christie School site the new homes offer affordable, and much needed, family sized accommodation in the area. It has 13 two bed apartments and a mixture of two, three and four bedroom houses for both rent and shared ownership.
The Cutlers were the first family to move into a new home on the development and welcomed the move. They had been living in cramped conditions with their three young children in two bedrooms, one of which was a small single. This meant they were forced to share a bedroom with their second child and for a short while, with their third.
Speaking from her new end of terrace home, Helen Cutler commented on how the move has changed her life for the better, "Sharing our bedroom was very difficult and put a real strain on us as a family. Our new home has three good sized bedrooms and lots more room downstairs; the extra space has made all the difference. The garden is great too; it has a high fence all around and I can watch the children playing from the windows to make sure they are safe. My neighbours are lovely and friendly, and I'm rapidly making friends on the rest of the estate."
Another happy resident is Eugene McConlough who recently moved into his two bed house that he bought through Russet's shared ownership scheme, Newbuild Homebuy. The scheme allows the buyer to pay part mortgage, part rent and is an excellent way of getting a foot on the housing ladder in an affordable way.
Eugene said: "Since I moved in around the middle of last summer I cannot take the smile from my face whenever I turn the corner to see my new home.
"I feel really lucky on so many levels. The neighbours are everything you could wish for, the location is perfect for both work and leisure, and the house itself is almost faultless."
Chosen for its excellent location in the community it's close to shops, transport links and local schools. The development has been built to a high specification and energy efficiency to meet Sustainable Homes Code Level 3 standard helping residents keep energy bills to a minimum.
Steve Woodcock, MD of Russet, said: ""It's wonderful to see so many families move into new homes, particularly in today's harsh economic climate with more and more people in desperate need of affordable homes. There is already a real sense of community spirit about the place and I hope everyone will enjoy living there for many years to come."
Part of Circle Anglia, Russet own and manage almost 7000 properties making it the largest provider of rented social housing within the Tonbridge and Malling area. |
