Riversmead to invest £45 million to build more affordable homes in East Herts
|
| Tuesday 4th August 2009 |
As part of a £45 million investment programme we are planning to build more than 300 affordable homes in East Herts.
The programme that includes £18 million funding from the Homes and Communities Agency will enable us to continue to deliver against the local authority's housing strategy of providing more affordable homes for local people.
The new homes, to be built over the next five years, will include housing for families and older people. The properties will feature some of the latest environmental technology to assist residents to reduce their fuel bills and their carbon footprint.
Family housing will be built in Birch Green, Hertford Heath and Ware. The investment programme will also enable us to extend our older persons housing strategy with new accommodation proposed at Calton House in Hertford and the acquisition of New River Court in Ware, a sheltered housing complex for older people which will include 20 one and two bed flats.
Steve Henning, Chief Executive, said "This is an exciting time for Riversmead and the local area. We are currently in the early design phase of the new developments which will include homes for older people and families.
"Our £45 million investment will bring much needed affordable housing to rural areas around East Herts and we will be looking at investing in and improving existing neighbourhoods. We are consulting with our residents and stakeholders to ensure we meet the needs of our local communities."
We have already begun to consult with residents and the wider community. Initial pre-planning consultation meetings with our residents have taken place at the proposed development sites. These meetings have enabled residents to speak to Riversmead staff, look at initial concepts and voice their opinions. The results of the consultation will be incorporated into the overall designs which will form part of the formal planning application that is expected to be made by the end of the year. |
