Residents benefit from £370,000 of Estate Improvements
|
| Friday 12th June 2009 |
Last year Herefordshire Housing spent £370,000 improving estates as a direct result of what local people told them. Over 15 improvements were carried out ranging from minor improvements costing £300 to major improvements costing £40,000. All were to make estates popular places to live.
Herefordshire Housing has a regular programme of estate inspections where residents, the Police, Community Support Officers and local Councillors all walk around the estates with the Housing Officer. They look to see where any problems are and what Herefordshire Housing can do and where they can work with other organisations to solve them and improve the area. The people who know the areas best are the local residents, which is why it is vital they are part of the estate inspections.
Safer Estates
“As a direct result of estate inspections, residents’ suggestions and requests, we have carried out improvements across the county. We’ve installed new lighting at Penhaligon Way, Marlowe Drive, Cusop, Cagebrook Garages and Sufton Rise. One resident from Marlowe Drive told us that it has made a big improvement for all the residents there, as they feel much safer than before.” Nicky Bullock, Herefordshire Housing’s Tenancy Services Officer.
Improvements were also made to pathways and garage areas at Churchcroft, Coldstone Cross, Merestone Road and Withypool. New fencing was installed at Meadow Close, Grandstand Road, Hunderton Road and Dairy Cottages. Dairy Cottages also benefitted from resurfacing tarmac.
Additional car parking facilities have been created at Merestone Road, Withypool and Grandstand Road. Also to combat car parking problems, bollards were installed at Churchcroft to stop illegal parking.
Flytipping and rubbish problems were resolved in Golden Post and Meadow Close. Contracts have been put in place to carry out regular cleaning of communal areas in Moor Farm, Tupsley and Newton Farm blocks. |
