Pierhead Housing Is Supporting Our Soldiers in Afghanistan This Christmas
|
| Tuesday 21st December 2010 |
Residents and staff of Pierhead Housing have donated lots of shoeboxes filled with 'goodies' to send to the troops out in Afghanistan this Christmas.
Pictured is Private James Crawford; son of our Senior Housing Officer, Heather Cowan; with residents from Chestnut Court Sheltered Scheme, and Rita Jones; scheme manager; presenting one of the shoeboxes on behalf of Pierhead Housing Association.
Private Crawford, recently home on 2 weeks leave from Afghanistan took time to visit the residents and to say a big thank you on behalf of those soldiers who will receive the treat-filled boxes.
Liscard Primary School, Wallasey, attended by Private Crawford's 10 year old brother, have also bought Christmas gifts to put in the boxes following a fund raising day in school when over £400 was raised - well done!
Private Crawford said "Afghanistan can be pretty rough at times, but things like this mean so much. Its nice to know that people back here are thinking of us and the boxes are a little taste of home and a reminder of what is back here when our tours end"
Sharron McGuinness, Director of Housing said "It is especially poignant at Christmas time to remember those servicemen and women who are away from home; these boxes will help boost morale and keep them going until they are back home, safe with their families" |
