Norfolk RSL Alliance selected as Local Standard Pilot by national social housing regulator / TSA commends local housing associations for showing real innovation

Norfolk RSL Alliance has been successful in a bid led by Wherry Housing Association to be selected to receive funding of up to £9,000 from the Tenants Services Authority (TSA) for a local standards pilot. The funding will be used for a project in Terrington St Clements.

The pilot project proposed by the Alliance is one of just 37 housing projects from across the country to have been selected out of the 185 organisations who responded to the bid for funding. Grants totalling £281,000 have been awarded across the country to support the development of agreements between landlords and their tenants to develop ‘local deals’.

Wherry Housing Association, part of leading affordable housing provider Circle Anglia, is leading the consortium and will use the funding to implement a common Neighbourhood and Estate Management standard in Terrington St. Clements. The team at Wherry will be working with the four landlords who have homes in the village to devise standards set by local residents aimed at tackling anti-social behaviour and neighbourhood issues.

A safer, cleaner, greener charter will be developed which will make the landlords and other agencies accountable for their services to the local standard and crucially to local residents.

Mark Jones, Managing Director of Wherry Housing Association, said: “We are delighted that the TSA has selected the work of Norfolk social landlords to be a national pilot. We are confident that collectively, we can make a real difference to our residents quality of life in Terrington St. Clement. We have a built strong track record of innovation and effective partnership working between housing associations in Norfolk and our work is recognised by the national regulator as being pioneering.”

Peter Marsh, TSA Chief Executive said, “We have had a fantastic response to our invitation and were very impressed with the high standard of all the bids we received. All the successful bidders such as the Norfolk RSL Alliance have shown real innovation and their plans are fantastic examples of good practice which can be shared across the sector.”

In July the TSA invited providers such as housing associations, local authorities and arm’s-length management organisations to make bids of up to £9,000 to support the development of agreements between landlords and their tenants to develop 'local deals'.

The pilots are scheduled to start this month and will be funded through to April 2010.
