New Residents Association Established
|
| Saturday 13th June 2009 |
The local residents of three housing estates in Berwick-upon-Tweed have come together to form their own residents association.
Residents from the Westfields, Highfields and Newfields estates have formed Three Fields Residents’ Association – the first residents’ association to be set up by Berwick Borough Housing.
The purpose of this new group is to represent the interests and concerns of all residents living on those estates and to act on the relevant issues which impact on the way they live.
Residents will play an important role in representing the interests of Berwick Borough Housing’s tenants, residents and leaseholders and will be consulted on all issues related to the services provided to the estate by local housing officers.
Housing Manager for Berwick Borough Housing, Simon Lord said, “The idea behind setting up a residents’ association is to bring local people together to identify local issues and concerns, and help to develop solutions to improve their community.
“We look forward to the future direction of Berwick Borough Housing in creating more resident associations across the Berwick Borough.”
Neil Brown, Managing Director at Berwick Borough Housing said, “One of our priorities is to promote community cohesion and encourage communities to work closer together. Residents’ associations provide opportunities for all to get involved in making decisions to improve the area they live in and I am delighted to see the residents of all three estates in Berwick coming together.”
Berwick Borough Housing tenants living at Westfields, Newfields and Highfields have or are currently receiving home improvements and upgrades as part of the promise made to tenants during transfer. All homes are benefitting from new kitchens, bathrooms, fire & surround, complete central heating systems and replacement of electrical sockets. |
