New partnership provides more housing choice
|
| Tuesday 4th January 2011 |
Calico Homes and Burnley Borough Council have joined forces to become part of a scheme providing people with easier access to affordable rented homes across Pennine Lancashire.
Known as B-With-Us, the system provides a one stop shop for helping customers to search and apply for rented accommodation from more than 22 housing companies.
Launching the service, Nichola Charnock, Neighbourhood Manager for Calico, said: "It is now much quicker for applicants to register for a wide range of homes across Pennine Lancashire. There is just one form to sign, and one system to go through.
"Calico was one of the first housing organisations in the country to offer a choice-based lettings scheme, which we introduced in 2003. We are very happy to be able to work with other companies to extend this serviceacross Pennine Lancashire, meaning a greater choice of homes, and a single waiting list for the region."
Paul Gatrell, Burnley Council's Head of Housing said: "We are pleased to be working with Calico, other registered providers and our Local Authority partners in this scheme to provide a better service to our residents.
"The B-With-Us scheme is an important tool to help us work together to meet the housing needs and aspirations of people in the area. It will provide more choice and opportunity for those wanting to access affordable housing and allow this to be done in a much more straightforward way."
Calico has written to more than 3500 customers to let them know about the changes, and recently held an event in Burnley town centre to raise awareness of B-With-Us.
