New Homes Open for Local People in Salisbury
|
| Tuesday 4th October 2011 |
Twenty-seven new affordable homes for over 90 local people have been officially opened by Cllr John Thomson, Deputy Leader for Wiltshire Council and Christine Turner from Spectrum Housing Group.
The new homes at Chatham Close in Salisbury provide a mix of accommodation including bungalows, houses and flats. There is a mix of shared ownership homes - part rent part buy and homes that are rented to those nominated by Wiltshire Council.
Cllr Thomson said," Owning your own home is still out of reach for many and here in Salisbury you still need to earn 11 times the average salary to be able to afford an averagely priced home. We also have a large number of people needing a home in the County so partnerships like this help us to meet the demand. It is a great pleasure to work with Spectrum and I hope that we can continue to do so in the future."
Mrs Danielle Robinson, one of the residents who has recently moved into Chatham Close added," I have been bidding now with Homes for Wiltshire for almost three years, my two boys had to share a room, so it was a very exciting time to find out we had been nominated for the scheme and could not be believe it when Hannah offered me the tenancy. I love the location, only five minutes away from my mum, and nearer to my sons school and nursery, and closer to work too. I am very impressed with the standard of the houses, I absolutely love my new house, I feel very lucky to have been selected."
Christine Turner, Chair of the Development Committee at Spectrum Housing Group said," Chatham Close is a great example of a partnership scheme providing excellent family housing and new community facilities at Stratford Social Club which is also home to a vibrant Scout club. I would like to take this opportunity to thank representatives at Wiltshire County Council who have been exceptionally helpful and supportive."
Chatham Close is built on land owned by Wiltshire Council. It was given to Spectrum on the basis that affordable housing to meet a local need and a new social club and scout hut would be built on the site. The scheme has cost around £3.5million. Over £1million was invested by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), Wiltshire Council contributed £250,000, the rest of the funding was provided by Spectrum and through sales receipts from the shared ownership units.
All the new homes have been let (through nominations by Wiltshire County Council) or sold to shared ownership applicants registered with the HomeBuy Agent |
