New Fylde celebrates the start of demolition work at the Heyhouses estate
|
| Thursday 16th July 2009 |
Mayor of Fylde, Cllr Paul Rigby, joined residents and staff, of New Fylde Housing, to defy the weather last Friday (July 3), and celebrate the start of demolition work on the Heyhouses estate, St Annes.
Over 30 residents joined officials from New Fylde Housing and Progress Housing Group at the event that marks the start of a programme of works by New Fylde Housing's development team throughout the Fylde Coast.
Guests also included executives and councillors from Fylde Borough Council and representatives from the partner organisations including Southdale Homes, The Homes and Communities Agency, Poole Dick Associates, Croft Goode Architects and the local police.
This project will see the Heyhouses estate transformed and in turn make a hugely positive impact on the surrounding area.
80 units are being demolished to make way for 111 new homes that will include: 75 2-bedroom flats, 26 3-bedroom houses, six 4-bedroom houses and four 2-bedroom bungalows.
New Fylde Housing's Managing Director, Eric Tamanis, said: "Today's events mark the culmination of a long process that began many years ago and are a result of the contributions of many people.
"I would particularly wish to thank local residents and tenants for their patience, input and support of our proposals, and of course without the backing of Fylde Borough Council, and The Homes and Communities Agency, making our plans a reality would simply not have been possible."
Mayor of Fylde, Paul Rigby, said: "This is a monumental day in the history of New Fylde Housing.
"Not only as Mayor of Fylde, but as Chair of New Fylde Housing, I would like to say how very proud I am of this day - the day that we formally recognise the start of the building of these new homes."
Chairman of the Heyhouses Residents Association, John Taylor, said: "The residents here today all know and appreciate the hard work involved in getting to this point.
"The New Fylde Housing Board has really kept its word to us in making this project happen.
"I just can't express how pleased I am with what is happening here and to be honest I still can't believe it. I think I speak on behalf of all the residents when I say we are all very very happy." |
