New affordable homes in Suffolk

Thursday 13th December 2007
Eighteen new affordable homes in the Suffolk village of Ixworth.

Havebury unveiled its new homes on Monday 5th November. The £1.9 million development includes Havebury’s first ‘shared ownership’ properties, available under a new scheme to help people on low incomes get a foot on the property ladder.

The 18 homes in New Road replace ten outdated pre-cast concrete ‘Airey’ homes built after the Second World War to overcome a shortage of resources. Tenants from these homes were re-housed while building work was carried out and six of the families have now returned to live in the new properties.

Bury St Edmunds building contractor Baker Construction completed the New Road development at the end of September and site manager Roy Cocksedge won a National House Building Council (NHBC) ‘Pride in the Job’ award for the project. He was awarded the same accolade last year for the redevelopment of 16 new Havebury homes in Reeve Close, Ixworth.
