NCHA - First affordable new homes for 20 years in Shardlow
|
| Wednesday 8th April 2009 |
Although most house building in the country has virtually ground to a halt, a development in Shardlow owned by a housing association has broken the mould. Twelve brand new homes for rent will be officially opened on Wednesday 1st April.
In addition to nine two and three bedroomed homes, the £1million development boasts three purpose-built bungalows, with one especially adapted for wheelchair use.
Nottingham Community Housing Association (NCHA) has worked in conjunction with South Derbyshire District Council for the first time to provide much needed affordable accommodation in the Derbyshire village. All nominations for the new homes will come from the local housing list and NCHA will manage the homes. These are the first new affordable homes for rent to have been built in Shardlow for over 20 years.
Miller Homes, the contractor, shares the site building homes for sale. Built on a former hospital site, the development was built following a Housing Needs survey in 2006.
Leader of South Derbyshire District Council, Councillor Heather Wheeler had this to say: "This excellent new development at Shardlow provides housing for local people to fit local needs. In these difficult times, the building of 12 new homes is a landmark achievement and will be a great asset for South Derbyshire. The supply of new homes is a top priority for the Council and this includes access to safe, secure and affordable housing." |
