Midlands Rural Housing - Contracts worth almost £2million out to tender

The news is likely to be a welcome opportunity for those working in the slowing housing sector. The credit crunch has cost most industries jobs and the latest official figures show unemployment in the UK has reached 1.92 million - its peak for more than a decade.

Midlands Rural Housing Association (HA) is advertising the contracts for the day to day responsive repairs and maintenance service for Leicestershire, Peak District, Warwickshire and Northamptonshire rural housing associations.

Experienced contractors are invited to bid for between one and four of the tenders, which will run from summer this year to spring 2013.

The Leicestershire contract covers around 100 homes and is worth an estimated annual £30,000; the same figures for Peak District are 200 properties and £40,000; Warwickshire is 500 homes and £170,000 and Northamptonshire is 500 and £190,000.

The four combined would be worth £430,000 for one year and £1.72 million over four years, based on the estimated figures.

David Krause Development & Maintenance Manager of Midlands Rural HA, said: "It is a fantastic opportunity which will allow contractors to develop a long term partnership with our dynamic & expanding rural Housing associations as the initial four year contract will have the facility to be extended for up to an additional four years subject to certain conditions being met, this will allow us to offer greater stability to both the contractors and to our customers"

A maximum of eight tenders will be invited for each of the contracts and each decision will be based on the quality of previous work and price.
