Mayor opens new Ability homes in Farnham

Monday 19th April 2010
Waverley Borough Council's Mayor, Cllr Pat Frost, has opened a new Ability development of three homes in Farnham.

The 3 new affordable homes were officially opened by the Mayor on Wednesday 24 March. They provide supported and independent living opportunities for three disabled people. The scheme comprises a 2-bed wheelchair standard flat and two 1-bed flats for people with learning disabilities.

The properties were built on land formerly owned by Waverley Borough Council which was previously used for occasional parking. They were built with funding from the Homes and Communities Agency and are now owned and managed by Ability Housing Association.

Cllr Pat Frost, the Mayor of Waverley, comments: "Demand for affordable housing all across Waverley, but including in Farnham, is high so we are especially pleased that these new homes have been built and are now lived in."

David Williams, Ability Chief Executive said: "This is another fine example of how effective partnership working between Ability and the local authority can deliver improved life chances for disabled people. These homes provide a great opportunity for people who want to live more independently to achieve their goal."

The properties were completed in February and feature re-used materials such as rail sleepers in the outside areas. Cllr Keith Webster, Waverley's portfolio holder for housing, adds: "This success of this development is thanks to working with the funders (the Homes and Communities Agency) and Ability Housing Association, who have worked incredibly hard to make these home a reality."
