Livin Move In at DurhamGate
|
| Wednesday 7th December 2011 |
DurhamGate has welcomed livin as its first major new occupier since it began the flagship County Durham regeneration project.
Formerly Sedgefield Borough Homes, livin is a registered provider of social housing and manages and maintains 8,500 homes across south west Durham.
Following a 12-month build programme livin has transferred its 170-workforce from its old headquarters in Spennymoor to its new purpose-built building at DurhamGate. The move brings the number of people employed at DurhamGate to 400.
Alongside Stanley Black & Decker's 180 staff at its European Research & Development facility and the team delivering the DurhamGate project, independent pub operator Marstons recently opened the Fox Cub at the development, which has created 45 full and part-time jobs.
With about £45million of committed investment at DurhamGate to date, the completion of livin's new headquarters further demonstrates the impact this regeneration project is having on the area's social and economic future.
The design and construction of livin's new building demonstrate the company's commitment to a high quality 21st century approach to living and work. Built to strict BREEM environmental standards, the headquarters offer significantly lower running costs than its previous offices.
It features a range of open-plan innovations to make the headquarters a dynamic, accessible and enjoyable place to work, with colleagues able to work more closely together and allowing greater cohesion between teams.
Colin Steel, Chief Executive of livin, said: "We are delighted to move into our new home, which demonstrates our commitment to providing our team with an environmentally efficient and high quality working environment. It also represents our dedication to high quality building standards, which are reflected across the homes we manage and maintain.
"We are proud to be part of DurhamGate's ambitions to regenerate this area of County Durham, which will attract businesses, jobs and investment to the region."
DurhamGate is being developed in partnership by Carillion Developments, part of Carillion plc, and regional property business, Arlington Real Estate.
Neil McMillan, Director of Carillion Developments, said: "The completion of livin's new headquarters makes another significant step forward in the renaissance of this area. Selecting this important regeneration project for its new headquarters confirms DurhamGate as the business location of choice at the heart of the community and we look forward to working alongside them for many years to come."
Allan Cook, Director of Arlington Real Estate, said: "The partnership approach we are taking to the development of DurhamGate has ensured that we have created for livin a new headquarters which exactly meets its requirements and commitment to sustainability.
"By creating a truly mixed-use regeneration project featuring commercial, residential and retail provision, DurhamGate is demonstrating a desire to improve the area's social and economic opportunities, which will attract further investment in County Durham." |
