Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing - Rent-free weeks give tenants a chance to catch up on their rent

Thursday 11th December 2008
Get your rent account up to date by making the most of your non-payment weeks, and you could win a valuable prize and receive other great rewards - that's the message Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing (KNH) is giving its tenants.

The weeks starting 22 and 29 December 2008 are non-payment weeks for KNH customers - but only for those with clear rent accounts.

If you owe rent, using these weeks to pay as normal will cut your arrears straight away.

Principal Housing Manager, Dave Bennett said: "Every pound we collect during those two weeks immediately reduces
outstanding arrears.

"We are urging all tenants who owe rent to continue to pay as normal to help cut their debt.

"We are well aware that these are difficult financial times for many people, but it's important that people don't ignore the problem if they are in arrears.

"We have specialist advisors who can help people in the most difficult circumstances so if you're a council tenant and struggling to pay your rent and make ends meet, please give one of our Money Advisors a call on 01484 223262 - we are here to help."

As an incentive to encourage tenants to clear their arrears, all accounts that are up to date by 31 March 2009 will be entered into a special prize draw to win £250.

All tenants in arrears will be receiving a letter during December advising them how much they owe. If you need any advice on paying your rent or dealing with debt - particularly at this time of year, please contact your housing team.
