Keeping young people fit and healthy

Thursday 26th January 2012
Pupils at a Rossington school are learning why they shouldn't dabble in drink or drugs, and this is being helped by new books donated by a Doncaster housing organisation.

Pupils at Rossington All Saints Academy, Doncaster, will be working from books called 'From the Heart' paid for by St Leger Homes of Doncaster - the organisation that manages just under 21,000 council homes for Doncaster Council.

The 32 books, which cost nearly £200, have been paid for from the company's positive activities fund - money used to keep young people fit and healthy and to help stamp out anti-social behaviour.

The books, provided by Child Protection UK, educate young people on the devastating effects drink or drugs can have on people's lives, a subject taught in the school's Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship and Education (PSHCE) lessons.

Zoe Muscroft, St Leger Homes' team leader in Rossington, said: "The books educate young people on the bad effects of drugs and alcohol and when we were approached by Child Protection UK to sponsor the books, we were only too happy to help ."

Karen Green, Assistant Principal at the school, said: " We carry out a comprehensive PSHCE education at the school and these books are excellent. They give pupils more details about alcohol and drugs and the impact they can have on people's lives. They also contain case studies, so pupils can read other young people's true stories who give the clear message not to drink or take drugs."
