The Audit Commission report published on the 30 July 2009 states that East Durham Homes provides a ‘good’ service with ‘excellent’ prospects for improvement and inspectors gave the service a two star, ‘good’ rating.
Paul Tanney, East Durham Homes Chief Executive said: “This is a fantastic result for East Durham Homes and means that we should now be able to access the additional decent homes funding to improve customer’s homes.
He added: “I would like to thank all East Durham Homes staff, the Housing Partnership, the Board and those customers and partners who have been involved in helping us improve our services, and for everyone’s co-operation and willingness to work together. This has been a real team effort.”
Some of the major service improvements over the last two years include:
* Improved performance on repairs appointments made and kept
* Installed call monitoring equipment into our contact centre to ensure improved quality
* Reduced the number of empty properties we have, and reduced the time taken to re-let empty properties down to 24 days from 84 days in 2004/05
* Improved our response to anti-social behaviour cases and increased the size of the enforcement team
* Reduced rent arrears and created a Welfare and Debt Advisor post to help maximise people’s benefits
* Doubled the size of our Customer Involvement Team
* Reduced the waiting time for aids and adaptations from 18 months to 3 months.
The report also highlights a transformation in culture within the organisation, and that East Durham Homes has effectively addressed previous inspection recommendations resulting in real service improvements to customers.
Keith Gallagher, East Durham Homes Chair said: “This result shows the commitment that EDH and its customers have put in over the last 2 years and should mean that all our customers will have their homes improved to the Government’s decent homes standard. I and my fellow board directors are really pleased with the outcome and know how much this will improve the area and the lives of our customers.” |
