The merger of Windmill Housing Association and MMHA (Manchester Methodist Housing Association) in Blackpool was celebrated by tenants, staff and board members from both organisations.
They gathered at the former Windmill headquarters in Talbot Road, Blackpool, now rebranded as MMHA Fylde Coast, for glasses of bubbly and a buffet lunch.
The move means tenants will enjoy the benefits and security of a large-group housing management structure and all staff have transferred to MMHA, part of Great Places Housing Group.
Speaking at the event, Maggie Shannon, Director of Performance and Innovation for Great Places, said: "This is about bringing together two very good organisations with a long and very proud history.
"One of the things I’ve found is a strong sense of shared vision, a sharing of why we’re here and why we do this job. And that’s about the customers who we serve. I’ve seen from both organisations a real desire to make an impact in Blackpool, for the people who live here. The best interests of staff and tenants will remain our top priority during the period of change."

Tina Cook, a member of the Windmill board who has co-opted to the MMHA board told guests: "I’d like to thank the Windmill staff. You’re such a professional team and your hard work over the years is really appreciated. I’m sure it will continue into the future with MMHA.
"I’d also like to thank the Windmill board members present for making an excellent choice in joining together with MMHA, and MMHA for helping make it such a smooth process. I’d like to wish you all the best for the future."
Talks began late last year and consultation among residents started in January, to give customers plenty of opportunity to be involved and give their views on the process.
Windmill’s 750 properties, including flats in sheltered housing schemes, general needs and shared ownership homes, have been transferred to MMHA. The properties are almost all in Blackpool but with a small number in Fylde, Wyre and Lancaster. |
