Housing associations' dismay at reduction in Adaptations funding

Tuesday 5th April 2011
Horizon and Margaret Blackwood Housing Associations today expressed their dismay and concerns at the Scottish Government's decision to restrict adaptations funding for social housing tenants.

Over half of the associations' tenants have a disability or live with someone who has a disability. The impact of the new funding regime means that over £1/4 million of adaptations will be withdrawn from the two organisations. This funding enables 500 more disabled people each year to remain living independently in their own homes. It represents a 48% cut for Horizon and a 60% cut for MBHA.

Both associations call on the new Scottish Government in May to take immediate action to address this unreasonable situation and work with the SFHA and associations with expertise in this area to achieve a fair and affordable solution.
