Home Support Scheme helps Letchworth residents

Thursday 27th September 2007
A scheme launched in April to support older Letchworth residents in their homes, is going from strength to strength.

The scheme, run by Howard Cottage Housing Association and Letchworth Cottages and Buildings (a subsidiary of the Letchworth GC Heritage Foundation) aims to help residents aged 60 and over to maintain an independent lifestyle in their own home by providing a range of support. Debbie Horne, the Home Support Worker running the scheme for Howard Cottage enjoys seeing the results of the scheme, she says, 'I really enjoy working on the scheme and get an enormous amount of satisfaction seeing the difference I can make to my clients' lifestyles.'

A couple of times a month, Debbie accompanies her clients to lunch. Debbie says 'In a few cases, I am the only person that some of my people see in the whole week and this lunch enables them to get out of the house, socialise and meet new people. We are working towards a regular coffee morning in a Letchworth coffee shop for people who would like to meet up for a coffee and a chat.'
