Home opens first-ever shared ownership scheme in Spennymoor
|
| Saturday 15th August 2009 |
Home has built 18 new homes at Derwent Terrace in Spennymoor, specifically aimed at people aged 55 and over.
The £720,000 million development includes ten homes for rent and eight for shared ownership, meaning people can buy a minimum 50% share in their property. And despite being in the grip of a recession, six of the shared ownership properties have already been sold and the remaining two have been reserved by people who are trying to sell their current homes.
This is the first time shared ownership has been made available in Spennymoor and it has allowed people to get a foot on the property ladder from as little as £61,500 for a 50% share. All the properties have gardens and utilise innovative solar panels to heat water.
Jim Preston, Managing Director for Home’s North East region, said: “As part of the development we demolished unpopular one-bedroom bungalows and built new properties that have proved ideal for people downsizing from a large family home, or those keen to get a foot on the property ladder.
“Not everybody aged 55 and over has their own property and we are delighted to offer people the chance to become home owners by being the first developer to provide shared ownership in Spennymoor.”
Anyone interested in buying the remaining shared ownership properties at Derwent Terrace should contact Emma Richardson on 0191 3324930. |
