Home on Track for Easter Completion

Tuesday 20th November 2007
Work on a Council home in Pembury Road, Eastbourne that was gutted by fire in April, is due to begin in the New Year. Currently, the house is covered by scaffolding and has a temporary roof cover and perimeter fence in place.

While the damage to the property was extensive, the main structure of the house was unaffected. Once tenders for the work have been received and assessed, it is hoped that the selected contractor will start on site in January, with full completion scheduled for Easter 2008.

Due to the intensity of the fire the four neighbouring properties in the block also suffered some damage.

Ken Phillips is the Property Services Manager at Eastbourne Homes. He said: "We have carried out a full structural survey to the house and the Council owned adjoining properties. A great deal of remedial work is required but we are confident that this can be completed early in 2008."

In order to return neighbours who were affected by the fire to their homes as quickly as possible, staff at Eastbourne Homes have been helping them with their insurance claims. One of these residents hopes to return to their home this month.
