High Commissioner of India visits Asra House
|
| Wednesday 13th January 2010 |
Staff and residents of an Asra Midlands care home in Leicester rolled out the red carpet for a VIP visit recently.
The High Commissioner of India Nalin Surie and his wife Poonam dropped into Asra House, a residential care home for people with an Asian lifestyle in Belgrave to see first hand the benefits of a home which caters specifically for the religious, social and cultural needs of older residents. He was joined by local Leicester City Councillors as part of a tour of the city.
Mr Surie met the home’s staff and residents, including Ramkunver Bhogaita, who has lived at Asra House since 1991 and proudly presented Mr Surie with a beautiful garland.
Following Tuesday’s visit Mr Surie said: “It was a pleasure to visit Asra House – it’s an excellent example of what can be achieved when an organisation is truly committed to developing homes and services tailored to meeting the specific needs of a culturally diverse group of older Asian people. It is a credit to Asra Midlands that it has created such a homely, inclusive and welcoming environment.”
“I was delighted to hear about Asra Midlands’ plans to continue to expand its operations and build on its success by providing older people with high quality accommodation and services.”
Vijay Asi, Asra Midlands’ Managing Director, said: “It was an honour to welcome such important guests into our home and show them the fantastic work going on here. It was a wonderful opportunity for our residents and team of dedicated staff to meet Mr Surie.”
Asra House, which is run by Asra Midlands, a subsidiary of leading UK housing provider Sanctuary Group, is home to 38 people who are frail and elderly, or have a sensory impairment. Residents live in self-contained flats and have access to a range of culturally appropriate services and activities. A dedicated team of multi-lingual care staff are on hand round-the-clock and are committed to providing the highest standards of care. |
