Herefordshire Housing has started building work this week on the £5.25 million project for new affordable homes in Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire.
Forty three Herefordshire Housing properties will be demolished in Wood Edge, Ross-on-Wye, due to irreversible deterioration of their concrete panels. The properties will be replaced with modern, affordable homes. Herefordshire Housing has also committed to building an additional ten properties and as some existing residents have moved from the area, twenty nine properties will be made available to help to alleviate the chronic shortage of affordable housing in the county.
The building contract has been awarded to Pearce Group who will carry out the development in two phases over 72 weeks to ensure minimum disruption to residents. The new properties will be to a high standard meeting the Lifetime Homes Standard, Secure by Design and will have an ECO Homes rating of Very Good. Residents have been involved throughout the process, helping to design their new homes and the layout of the estate and as part of their involvement; new access roads and footpaths will form part of the redevelopment.
Herefordshire Housing has been working closely with Pearce to ensure local residents and the community have regular communication and updates on the construction process.
"We have discussed with Pearce the importance of involving local residents and the community throughout the redevelopment and already several initiatives have been set up including information days for school children to look at a live construction, discussions on careers in construction and arts competitions. It has also been arranged for a Local Community Support Officer to be based at the site office for the duration of the development" Said Graham Parfitt, Development Manager for Herefordshire Housing.
Herefordshire Housing will continue to work closely with Pearce throughout the development to ensure residents are kept well informed and any concerns are addressed. |
