Ground-breaking development unveiled in Norton Lindsey
|
| Wednesday 5th October 2011 |
A ground-breaking development of affordable homes has been completed in a popular Warwickshire village.
Tenants are now settling in at the 12 new homes in Norton Lindsey, near Warwick.
The £1.73 million scheme has involved partnership working between Warwickshire Rural Housing Association (WRHA), Warwick District Council and Stratford-on-Avon District Council.
Close cooperation was needed as most of the Curlieu Lane site lies within Stratford but the access road is in the neighbouring Warwick district.
It is the first time Warwick District Council has been involved in such cross-boundary working to provide affordable homes.
Other partners involved in the scheme included Warwickshire Rural Community Council, development agent Jephson Housing Association and the Homes and Communities Agency (the national housing and regeneration agency for England).
The development, built by contractor Wates Living Space, is a mix of two and three-bedroom houses and bungalows.
Angela Amos and her nine-year-old daughter Gracie have moved into one of the two-bedroom houses in Brick Kiln Close.
Angela, a physiotherapist, said: "I've been on the council's housing waiting list on-and-off for 10 years. I was renting privately but the landlord decided to sell, so getting this place was great news for us.
"It means Gracie doesn't have to move schools and it's convenient for my work, as all my clients are in this area.
"It's a lovely house - there are good-sized rooms, a garden and it's a nice community round here."
Owned and managed by WRHA, the homes are only offered to local people or those with a connection to the area through family or work ties. They serve the three parishes of Norton Lindsey, Claverdon and Wolverton.
The development comes after a survey of housing needs by Warwickshire Rural Community Council showed there was a need for new affordable homes in the village.
WRHA Chairman Derrick Dyas said: "We have worked closely with the two district councils to bring this scheme to fruition and I am delighted to see these much-needed homes completed.
"This development will go a long way towards meeting the demand for affordable housing in this popular area."
The properties, which have been built to level three of the Government's Code for Sustainable Homes, feature energy efficient air-source heating technology.
The scheme has been supported by £924,000 of funding from the Homes and Communities Agency and £230,000 from Stratford-on-Avon District Council. |
