Green homes mean green places

South Tyneside Homes is showing its commitment to the environment by signing up to a national campaign to cut energy use over the next year.
The 10:10 campaign encourages millions of people across the UK to join together and lower their energy bills and greenhouse gas emissions by 10% in 2010.
Its aim is to encourage individuals, schools, hospitals, businesses and organisations to combat climate change by making simple changes to their lifestyles, homes and workplaces.
Isobel Riley, Chief Executive of South Tyneside Homes said, "Our Decent Homes programme is great news for our thousands of tenants, for the local economy and for the regeneration of the Borough as a whole. The improvement work we are carrying out to homes in the region brings huge environmental savings. However we believe it is important that we lead the way for our tenants by becoming more environmentally friendly."
"The 10:10 campaign is timely for our organisation as we are currently completing our initial Environmental Strategy and revised Affordable Warmth Action Plan which demonstrates our commitment to the green agenda."
"We will soon be releasing our Green Travel Plan to encourage staff to make informed choices about travel to and from work. We are also looking to introduce an exciting electric car pool scheme for staff and the Cycle to Work scheme. We are also setting up a group of Green Champions across the organisation to promote energy awareness among employees, and help to advise staff to become more energy efficient by changing their behaviour both at home and work."
She added, "We are currently awaiting the results of our Carbon Audit completed by the Carbon Trust and we will be implementing recommendations, helping us to reduce energy use and reduce the organisations carbon footprint." |
