Green-Fingered Botanist To Visit Boston Mayflower

Tuesday 7th December 2010
Professor David Bellamy is on his way to visit Boston Mayflower.
The popular TV botanist will visit Boston on Monday, December 13, to plant a fruit tree at Mayflower's homeless hostel and launch the Grow2Eat and Cook4Life initiative.
Grow2Eat involves the creation of a number of community growing spaces where local people will be encouraged to grow and harvest their own fresh produce with the help of trained master gardeners.
These spaces will be supplemented by planted tubs and raised beds throughout the town - where vegetables, herbs, and
soft fruit will be grown for the public to pick and eat for free.
The schemes are being joint-led by Boston Borough Council and supported by other key partners - including Garden Organic, health trainers and Boston College.
Funding for these projects has been provided through the Lincolnshire Health and Wellbeing Fund, which is supported by NHS Lincolnshire and Lincolnshire County Council.
Boston was inspired by volunteers at Incredible Edible, Todmorden, and has been welcomed as one of their partners.
The projects will encourage more people to grow their own food, eat a healthier diet, develop a local food distribution scheme to use surplus produce, identify suitable areas of land for growing and provide cookery tuition and growing advice.
