Good news for city’s residents
|
| Wednesday 10th March 2010 |
Norwich City Council today (8 March) signed a short term contract with Connaught Partnerships Limited for the delivery of its housing repairs, maintenance and improvements work.
The short term contract was signed with Connaught to ensure service continuity for residents from 1 April. It is one of 11 individual contracts which make up the city council’s multi million pound public facing services - including waste and recycling, building maintenance and street cleaning. The remaining 10 contracts have been awarded to the successful suppliers as planned and will commence on 1 April.
Under the short term contract the appropriate CityCare staff will TUPE transfer to Connaught.
Philip Hyde, the city council’s head of legal, regulatory and democratic services, said: “We are pleased we’ve been able to provide continued service in such a timely way - particularly given the shortness of time available.
“We have been able to do this in a cost effective way, giving value for money and continuity of service to our residents. It is regrettable we have had to take this action as we consider our contract letting procurement procedures were rigorous and robust and we will be pursuing the defence of the ongoing court challenge with vigour.”
Peter Jones, chief executive of Connaught Partnerships said: “We are delighted to have been awarded the short-term contract by Norwich City Council to deliver its housing repairs, maintenance and improvement works.
“The council’s team has been working extremely hard with us to make sure this agreement is in place, ensuring continuity of service but also bringing much needed peace of mind both for residents and for the CityCare staff who will be TUPE transferring to us on 1 April 2010.
“Despite the uncertainty, we have continued with our planning and preparatory works for the housing repairs contract in the hope that a resolution could be reached and so we are ideally positioned to ensure a seamless transfer of service on 1 April on all eight contracts we have now been awarded.
“I would emphasise again that Connaught underwent a lengthy and extremely rigorous procurement process to win this contract on the basis that our bid offered the best possible service and value for money for the people of Norwich. With that in mind we look forward to the long term contract situation being resolved as soon as possible.” |
