Gentoo insures a secure future for Sunderland
|
| Tuesday 17th February 2009 |
Gentoo has launched a new income protection scheme, making people in Sunderland the first to be able to take advantage of a UK-wide initiative.
Gentoo customers and all Sunderland residents will be able to apply for the insurance, with Gentoo acting as the agent. The policy will cover redundancy, accident or illness.
Andrew Taylor, deputy chief executive for Gentoo, said: "In the current climate we recognise that many of our tenants, staff and even those just living in the area in which we work, may be facing financial difficulties and we are constantly looking for ways to help.
"We hope that, by acting as an agent, we can raise the profile of a product which we believe to be a cost effective way of offering security. This is a part of a much wider financial inclusion agenda for us."
The income protection insurance is arranged by global independent broker Lockton. Customers choose their monthly cover requirements, with premiums starting from as little as £2.19 a week and there is also an option for Gentoo customers to pay weekly alongside rent payments.
Lockton Managing Partner Matt Davies said: "Lockton already works closely with Gentoo offering a range of financial products to their residents and we are pleased to be involved in their new income protection scheme. This unique financial initiative comes at a crucial time when many people will be seeking peace of mind as fears over jobs and the economy increase."
This is just one of the wide range of initiatives Gentoo is involved in as part of its financial inclusion agenda. Support offered includes free benefit health checks, help and training to access useful information online and support to set up a business. Gentoo is also a member of the Libra partnership, made up of several not-for-profit organisations with diverse skills and knowledge aimed at helping those in financial difficulty. |
