Gentoo have been awarded the prestigious Big Tick from Business in the Community.
The Big Tick is awarded to companies able to demonstrate excellence in the way that they organise and integrate their responsible business practices and who can show a positive impact both on society and on the business.
The decision to award the Big Tick was made by a panel of independent, experienced practitioners, and as such is both hard won (only 39% of applicants are successful), and highly prestigious.
Stephen Howard, Chief Executive, at Business in the Community said: “I congratulate all the winners of a Big Tick this year. It is fantastic to see so many strong examples of responsible business practice. The Big Tick is now recognised as both a valuable and difficult award to achieve. It means a company has demonstrated ways in which they positively make a difference to the environment, their workplace, the community or in the market place in which they sell, advertise or trade.
Those who achieve the Big Tick are leading companies, ones that run their businesses aware that they depend above all on the talent, innovation and loyalty of their people. They know that they cannot build a successful sustainable business without constantly showing their commitment to being a better business.
Business in the Community mobilises business for good. The Awards for Excellence is our annual benchmark of the very best. It is reassuring to see such a high standard in all the Big Tick winners this year.”
Gentoo have been awarded their Big Tick in the Community Impact category. The Merrill Lynch Education Award recognises community programmes that raise the achievement of young people through building sustainable partnerships with schools to the benefit of pupils aged 5-19 years in the UK.
The award recognises the role that Gentoo has played in working with schools in the City and the massive commitment of their staff who willingly give their time to support both this and other equally successful education programmes.
Gentoo have raised the achievement of young people through building sustainable partnerships with schools, in particular through their Pupils First programme.
Val Milnes, Head of Social Investment said: “'We are proud to receive recognition through this prestigious award which demonstrates our commitment to helping to inspire young people to achieve their potential and raise levels of attainment in the City's schools.”
Pupils First was also selected as one of only five projects to be short listed for the 2008 Example of Excellence. The winners will be announced at The Awards for Excellence Gala Dinner on Monday 7th July 2008 at the Royal Albert Hall. |
