Adur Council has added to its own housing stock with a brand new 'council house', the first since the 1980s.
The two bedroom bungalow at Prince Charles Close in Shoreham is now the home of Julie Brown and her son, Tom. Julie said: "I'm totally chuffed with my new home, it has made such a difference to our lives. Tom now has garden to play in and I am able to lead an independent life. I know the neighbourhood very well as I lived here when I was a child, so to return to a place I know so well is amazing."
The building was originally a community centre, which over the years became less and less used. The council tried to encourage the community to use the space without success and decided that the building could be converted to provide a new family home instead. Bramber Construction Company Ltd carried out the conversion for the council which cost £35,000.
Cabinet member for improved customer services, Julie Searle said: "I feel very proud and privileged that we have been able to do this and the result is a fantastic home for Julie and her son, which meets her needs perfectly." |
