First intake of apprentices on Sanctuary's IMS Programme

Leading UK housing provider Sanctuary Group is building for the future after announcing the first intake of recruits on a newly created Maintenance Operations Apprenticeship Delivered in partnership with Stephenson College in Leicestershire, 16 apprentices have been employed to the scheme after successfully applying online using Sanctuary's apprenticeship website www.sanctuary-apprenticeships.co.uk.

Stephenson College has been working closely with Sanctuary to develop the course which includes practical skills training in the key components of building maintenance.

The 16 new apprentices will receive a mixture of on and off-the-job training over a two - year period leading to an NVQ Level 2 in Maintenance Operations. Working closely with colleagues within Sanctuary's Internal Maintenance Service (IMS), the apprentices will help with repairs to residents' homes and gain skills in three key areas from bricklaying, plastering, carpentry and joinery, plumbing, painting and decorating that can be used in a maintenance and repair environment.

New apprentice Sam Chell said: "I was extremely pleased when I found out I was offered an apprenticeship with Sanctuary as I feel it is the best way to learn new skills and gain qualifications.

"I'm really enjoying my new role with the Internal Maintenance Service and looking forward to meeting new people and improving my work in the future."

The Maintenance Operations Apprenticeship Programme is just one of a number of successful schemes already launched by Sanctuary across the Group. Programmes are up and running in several business areas, including finance, IT, business administration, health and social care, housing and horticulture.
