Energy Bill Busting in Braunstone

Thursday 12th January 2012
Social Landlord Riverside host an Affordable Warmth event for tenants and residents at the Brite Centre, Braunstone in Leicester this week. The event helped people over 60 identify how they can keep their bills down and their home warm.

Tenants and residents from Braunstone were joined by Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service, Leicestershire Police Constabulary, Citizen Advice Bureau and U-switch to learn about how to use energy wisely, ensure that they were on the best rates with current energy supplier and making sure their homes were secure.

Amy Cieslak, Service Co-ordinator Older People from Riverside said: "The event was aimed at the over 60s as in winter some elderly people struggle to pay bills and keep warm. Riverside is committed to managing homes which are cost efficient to run, and have minimal impact on the environment.

"We wanted to provide information about how to reduce bills, work out if they are on the best tariff, provide free gadgets to help make savings and signpost them to organisations that can help if they are struggling to pay bills."

A local Riverside tenant, Ann Sheffield who attended the event said: "I've been able to identify ways in which to reduce my water usage and reduce my bill, allowing me more money to keep my home warm in winter.

"Something as simple as turning the tap off when I brush my teeth can save me money, I also got a shower timer which will also help me save. The event was really good with services there like Uswitch, the Fire Service and the Citizens Advice Bureau."
