A newly formed Housing Consortium has thrown its resources behind a £7 million community led initiative to tackle worklessness.
The partnership known as The WorkSTEPS partnership has linked up with three successful bidders – The Five Lamps Organisation, Newtown Community Resource Centre and New College Durham who will be delivering Stockton’s Communities Fund.
The Housing Consortium consists of Endeavour Housing, Tristar Homes, Fabrick Housing Group, Accent North East, Places for People and Stockton Flats. At the heart of the joint approach is each housing organisations different links at an individual household level resulting in staff and advisors from a range of agencies being better connected with those who would benefit from the fund to help people improve their skills and secure work.
The initial programme which stared on 1st April is for three years with a possible extension to five.
Angel Lockwood, Chief Executive of Endeavour Housing advised “We are pleased to be key partners in such an important initiative. There are high unemployment levels across social housing generally and we want to do all we can to assist tenants back into training or employment. Endeavour is more than just a landlord and we have excellent relationships with tenants that will be used positively through this process”. |
