Company scoops top Equality Award

Blyth Valley Housing has scooped a top equality award at this years Equality North East award ceremony held on Friday the 26th September.

Blyth Valley Housing won the 2007 award for Employers of Between 51 and 250 Staff.

Equality North East hold an awards evening each year to recognise good practice and the achievements of organisations and individuals in the North East that have made an outstanding contribution to promoting equality and diversity and tackling disadvantage.

The Company was short-listed along with:

* Mental Health Matters
* Tyneside Cyrenians
* Robert Muckle LLP

The judges were particularly impressed by the systems and procedures the company has in place and the rapid progress it has made in promoting equality and diversity and tackling disadvantage.

Equality North East is an independent not-for-profit company that works across the whole of the North East region with the aim of ‘making equality a reality’

The organisation has been established for over ten years and during that time it has developed to be an important regional resource and the leading body for equality information, advice, guidance, training and support for individuals and organisations in all sectors.

Equality North East works to remove the barriers to employment and entry into employment facing minority and disadvantaged groups. It recognises that stereotyping and prejudice can be deeply entrenched and if we are to address inequality and discrimination we need to use many different approaches, from working with school children and disadvantaged groups to raise self esteem and aspirations, to providing training and support for employers to help remove discrimination in the workplace.
