Community Issues Top of the Agenda

Thursday 29th November 2007
Community Issues Top of the Agenda for Shropshire Tenants.

Tackling anti social behaviour and building communities were the hot topics for discussion at the 2007 Shropshire Tenants Conference which was held recently.

This annual event was attended by over one hundred tenants from eleven Shropshire housing associations which included; Beth Johnson Housing Association, Bournville Village Trust, Bridgnorth District Council, Bromford Carinthia Housing Association, Marches Housing Association, Meres and Mosses Housing Association, Oswestry Borough Council, Severnside Housing, South Shropshire Housing Association, South Staffordshire Housing and The Wrekin Housing Trust.

The overall theme for the one day event was 'RESPECT AGENDA' - raising tenant's awareness about the Government's strategy in tackling anti social behaviour, improving the quality of life for residents and promoting positive messages. A wide range of information sessions were hosted at the conference including disability awareness and sustainability. One lively workshop looked at the practical steps which individuals can take to address the serious issue of climate change. Tenants were shown ways to reduce electricity consumption by using energy efficient lightbulbs - saving the planet and saving money at the same time!

Zoey Stanton, Tenant Participation Officer for Bournville Village Trust said: "This conference was organised in conjunction with tenants and the Consortium of Shropshire Tenants. Throughout 2007 a series of training sessions and networking events have also been hosted by the Partnership and lots more are planned for 2008".
