Community Caretakers from Dale & Valley Homes have helped create a new garden in Howden-le-Wear.
The caretakers’ help was part of a package from the Better Homes, Better Lives fund to Howden-le-Wear Community Partnership.

The partnership applied for a grant towards the cost of creating a picnic and barbecue area outside Hargill Haven common room.
Sophie Cockburn, chair of the partnership, said: “We have had an awful lot of work done in the garden. It’s such a lovely area and it’s wasted.
“We just thought that it would be a lovely, quiet area for people just to come and sit in a relaxing little area.
“Sometimes when the youth drop in on a Thursday evening hasn’t been busy Inge Nicholls, the treasurer, and I have done a bit of work and the Children have helped.”
The caretakers helped by building and securing picnic benches, weeding and planting a garden area.
Other improvements paid for by the Better Homes, Better Lives grant include new fencing and a brick barbecue area.
The fund is supported by Dale & Valley Homes with its partners Dunelm Property Services and Gentoo. It gives grants of up to £500 to community projects in the Wear Valley area.
Carol Porter from Dale & Valley Homes said: “We were glad to be able to provide both cash and help in kind to make this project happen.
“Hopefully the residents of Howden-le-Wear will have plenty of good weather to enjoy their new facilities.” |
