On Thursday 10 December staff and residents from Moat sheltered scheme, Washington Close, attended Wentworth Primary School’s Christmas lunch. The intergenerational lunch was organised so that the older people could experience mouth watering school dinners that are made on site using fresh local produce.
13 residents walked the short distance to the school for the meal and on arrival found that students from year two had made Christmas cards for all of them. Year six pupils were delighted to help out and served traditional roast turkey followed by mince pies and ice cream.
This was the second time that Washington Close residents have been invited to the school for a meal and following the success of both meals, the head teacher will offer this to Washington Close residents once a term.
Lesley Richardson, support coordinator at the scheme in Maldon, says; “We want to build bridges between older and younger residents and encourage all age groups to challenge general perceptions about age. This Christmas dinner allowed residents from Washington Close to get to know their younger counterparts at Wentworth Primary School and break down some age barriers while celebrating the festive period!”
