Woodhouse tenant helps celebrate 21,000 homes improved through Decent Homes work.
Over 21,000 homes throughout Sheffield have now been improved through the Decent Homes programme. Mrs Smedley, a tenant in Woodhouse, helped Sheffield Homes celebrate this milestone with the 'key to the door' of her newly improved home - number 21,000 in the programme.
The Decent Homes scheme aims to bring all Council housing up to the Government's Decent Homes standard. Residents have had a variety of work completed to improve the quality of their homes which could include fitting new kitchens, bathrooms, heating and electrical upgrades, some external works, insulation and the installation of UPVC windows and doors.
So far 17,351 bathrooms, 17,065 kitchens, 78,000 windows and 26,313 new doors have been fitted.
In the South of Sheffield nearly 6,000 homes have been improved through the programme. In addition to Woodhouse areas that are currently undergoing improvent in South Sheffield include Lowedges, Gleadless Valley, Basegreen, Hackenthorpe and Stradbroke.
Jon Lovibond, Director of Investment, Sheffield Homes added: "This is a major milestone for the Decent Homes programme in Sheffield which has made such a difference to people lives and we're delighted that Mrs Smedley was able to help us celebrate it."
The work on Mrs Smedley's home has been carried out by Kier. She says, "I couldn't have asked for a more friendly and helpful set of workers than the team from Kier who carried out the work. The difference it has made to my home is unbelievable, I think my new kitchen and bathroom are absolutely marvellous!" |
